The New Sudanese Community Association has just submitted several grant applications seeking funds for an executive director position and the initial implementation of programs and services to Sudanese and other nationalities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The Board of Directors and other members of the Association have just completed during the past 12 months over 500 hours of capacity building training from a professional consultant with the aid of a $23,807 Organizational Effectiveness grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. The organization has moved to the “next level.”
There are over 2,000 Sudanese immigrants and refuges in the Fargo/Moorhead area. This is in part because of the national reputation Fargo/Moorhead has for successfully integrating New Americans as facilitated by Lutheran Social Services, Fargo.
The Association leases a business cubical and phone with an answering machine at:

The purpose of the New Sudanese Community Association is to facilitate the funding of a three-step model that will orient and integrate refugees into the Fargo/Moorhead and U.S. cultures through the development and delivery of educational and socializing programs. The three, self-perpetuating steps are as follows:
1) emotionally, psychologically, and physically shelter new refuges from any country in the world for a short time among members of the established refugee community,
2) facilitate and mediate integration of the new refugees into the Fargo/Moorhead and U.S. cultures and work force structures and societies, and
3) retain an activity operating Sudanese culture within the U.S. culture.
The faster New American Sudanese become self-sufficient and accumulate resources, the faster they can be of service to their home country, which unfortunately, is in the news on a too regular basis. Information about the organization is in the Association's brochure.
